The purpose of the Barnabas Ministry is to bring Biblically-based, Spirit empowered prayer, encouragement and support to those proclaiming the Gospel in Jerusalem, Judea and Samaria, unto the ends of the earth (Acts 1:8). Towards fulfilling this purpose, I continue to survey pastors in Ohio. To date, I have surveyed over 20 pastors who preached to a total of over 2,000 people in their churches this morning.
As a result of this ongoing survey process, I am replacing the motto of the Barnabas Ministry, “Encouraging Those Who Serve,” with the motto “Supporting Those Called by God.” Pastors need encouragement, yes. But more than that they need tangible support, beginning with prayer. As a practitioner with 38 years of pastoral experience in associate, solo, senior and founding roles, I am struck by how pastors need support now more than ever. One of the sayings I heard in seminary was, “if you can do anything else besides being a pastor, do it.” That is because there are times when as a pastor only your call from God keeps you going. That is true for missionaries as well.
I beg for your prayers as Joanne and I follow God’s call to support those serving the Lord so selflessly, and at times so sacrificially.
