Minutes – 2009 Fall?

Held @ Pittsfield Community Church, 17026 S. R. 58, Wellington OH 44090
Rev. Ken Gerhardt, Pastor

Worship: The Pittsfield Singers: thank you leading us into worship of our Lord Jesus Christ!

Devotions: Rev. Ken Gerhardt: “Love One Another,” John 13:31-35. Thank you, Ken!

Keynote Speaker: Dr. Joel R. Soza, Associate Professor of Biblical Studies, Malone University, Canton, Ohio: “Food and God,” based upon Dr. Soza’s book, Food And God: A Theological Approach to Eating, Diet, and Weight, Control, WIPF and STOCK Publishers, 2009; ISBN-13: 978-1-60608-224-9. Thank you, Dr. Soza, for a very thought provoking and pithy presentation regarding the role of food in our relationship with God! (Note: I have included the necessary data if any one wishes to purchase the book. In my opinion, it is organized in a way that facilitates use of the book either for personal study and/or for use in group discussion/counseling settings).

Lunch: Thank you to the Pittsfield folks for a delicious lunch, made even more meaningful by the teaching provided us by Dr. Soza!

Business Meeting

Opening Prayer: Dr. John Hood

Association Business

  1. Officer Election: The following individuals were sustained for another term by consensus of the assembled delegates:
    • Moderator: Rev. Dr. John Hood
    • Vice Moderator: Rev. David Dake
    • Treasurer: Rev. David Lippert
    • Secretary: currently vacant. Rev. Dr. Marshall Pierson, citing the press of other obligations, and believing that others in the Association will be used by the Lord to continue to accurately record the business of the Association, regretfully resigned the office of Secretary. During the meeting no one present consented to be nominated for Secretary. Dr. Hood asked the assembled delegates to keep this matter in their thoughts and prayers subsequent to the adjournment of today’s meeting.
  2. Fall 2010 Meeting: November 6, 2010 at Salem Evangelical Church, Marion, Ohio, D.V.; Rev. Patrick Street, Pastor. The keynote topic: Ohio Association members will participate in a discussion of local ministry and association issues around the theme of how to function more effectively for Christ as an association facilitating the ministries of the association members.
  3. Church Plant Report: “The Delaware Church Planting Project,” Ryan Hobbs. Ryan, a CCCC licensed minister, Sulphur Springs, Indiana, provided a report of the work done so far by himself and others in coordination with the national CCCC to plant a CCCC-affiliated congregation in Delaware, Ohio. Go to www.delawarechurchplant.org to read eight pages of data which Ryan provided the assembled delegates in today’s meeting. Please be in continual prayer for Ryan and the others being called by the Lord to this gospel endeavor.
  4. Salem School of Ministry & Youth Leaders Training: Rev. Pat Street: Pat provided copies of the Salem School of Ministry curriculum catalogue to the assembled delegates, and provided a report of the results to date. Pat also announced that Salem Church will host a half day training for youth leaders on July 10, 2010, entitled “Xtreme Leadership Day” from 8:30 am to noon at the Salem facility in Marion. Cost, including food and refreshments: $15.00. Pat strongly urged the assembled delegates to prayerfully seek and locate an individual from their local churches to be sent to this training, cogently pointing out that the future of each local church rises or falls with its effectiveness in reaching youth for Christ, or lack thereof. He also provided a sobering report to the assembled delegates concerning a Salem Church youth leader training last Fall which had to be cancelled due to lack of response by Ohio Association members.
  5. Sharing His Vision Report: Dr. John Hood: John reminded the assembled delegates of the need for all CCCC members to be supporting this national endeavor with both prayer and finances.
  6. 2011 CCCC Annual Conference July 25-28, 2011 at Crowne Plaza Hotel, 777 St. Clair Ave., Cleveland OH 44114: John disclosed to the assembled delegates that volunteers are needed from the Ohio Association to chair various subcommittees connected to the annual meeting in 2011 in Cleveland; and that there is planned an all day orientation meeting for committee chairs at the site in Cleveland on a Monday in October; details yet to be finalized. More information to follow.

Other and Old Business:

  • Phil Ross: one of his sons is slated to be on staff at Ohio University, Athens OH for Campus Crusade for Christ. However, he must raise his own financial support in order for this to be realized. Phil stated that he will be contacting Ohio Association members seeking financial and prayer support.
  • John Hood: advised that Todd Williams of Union Gospel Press of Cleveland is still seeking articles from Ohio Association members which can be utilized for Sunday School teaching materials. John also mentioned that the 2010 national CCCC meeting is in Springfield Massachusetts (see www.ccccusa.com
  • for details). John also mentioned that Jeff Griffith, Czech Republic missionary, will be on sabbatical in the U.S. from August 2010 to May 2011, and will be available for pulpit supply.
  • Franklin Shannon: reported that he is about to depart for Russia; that this may be his last trip there; that Russia is closing access to all foreigners, whether Christians or otherwise; that a radio station in Moscow is seeking an individual affiliated with the seminary to put its curriculum on the air, that the radio station has nationwide broadcasting capabilities. Problem: whoever functions as the broadcaster will likely be persecuted at the urging of the Russian Orthodox Church.

Closing Prayer: Rev. David Dake
